Therefore, the aim of this work is to carry out a preliminary study of themeiofauna associated with sandy substrates in the acidified system of La Palma, CanaryIslands, which includes coastal lagoons with very extreme environments. The results ob-tained based on abundance confirm a significant change in the meiofaunal communities inthese coastal lagoons. We found an increase in bioindicator taxa of altered environments:oligochaetes, nematodes, copepods and, to a lesser extent, ostracods and acarids. Whilexenacelomorphs are the most affected by acidification as they are the only group with adecrease in abundance. All this indicates an alteration in the composition of the meiofaunalcommunities due to the extreme acidification in the coastal environment of La Palma.
