AB Maritime navigation safety has always been and will continue to be a topic of vitalimportance worldwide. The evolution and modernization of aids to maritime navigation arefundamental due to their relevance in ensuring the safety and efficiency of navigation.This document focuses on the island of La Palma, aiming to assess the current situationof navigation aids, identify deficiencies in the existing infrastructure, and proposeimprovements.First, general topics such as the history of buoyage and the main systems used in theInternational Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) willbe addressed, providing a context that clarifies the current situation and the suggestedproposals.The island currently divides its buoyage mainly in the ports of Tazacorte and SantaCruz de La Palma, which, along with the four lighthouses on the island, provide safety at itsmost important points.The proposals aim to improve navigation aids in La Palma, as they would not onlyincrease the safety and efficiency of navigation but also contribute to the island's economicdevelopment, facilitating smoother and safer maritime traffic
