AB In this paper, we analyze student’s perception oftheir formative assessment in a databases course. Two formsof feedback are analyzed: interactive questionnaires duringclass time and self-assessment of lab practices. Qualitative datagathered with a survey is used to conduct a grounded theoryqualitative study. Our aim is to understand those aspects offormative assessment that contribute to their learning. The resultsobtained show that students’ perception is positive for bothforms of feedback. Responses about what factors of formativeassessment contribute to their learning fall into four categories:formative feedback, metacognitive control (reflective learning),relevant learner activity, and social learning. It is also worthmentioning that students’ perception of the formative assessmentanalyzed has not been substantially affected by the COVID-19impact on the learning environment.
