T1 Conflict and ritual convergence. Comparison between the finals of the Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores and the UEFA champions league (2000 2017)

AB This article is the culmination of a line of work on sports media rituals infootball at club level. We explore the evolution of these rituals in the finalsof the two main continental competitions worldwide: the UEFAChampions League in Europe and the Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores inSouth America. We will compare the two competitions to try to understand whether there is a pattern of transformation in their rituals and towhat extent a process of homogenization is taking place. We anticipatethat such homogenization is taking place, in a conflictive relationship withplaces and within a broader process of transformation that is changing thenature of rituals, parallel to the consolidation of new global tribes that arecreated and developed under the protection of media globalization.
