The adding of the cation yields the solid solution Ce1-xGdxO2-d (x = 0, 0.01,0.05, 0.1, 0.2). The aliovalent cations with an oxidation state lower than that of Ce4+generate oxygen vacancies and, as a consequence, an increase in the concentration ofionic charge “carriers”.
