Theapproach is to use medical imaging game-like interactive contentbut that could be developed within a limited budget and meetingsome challenging technical requirement (to be deployable on bothPCs and in low-cost Android tablets without a continuousconnection to the internet). We reviewed some of the existinggames or gamified e-learning modules to create a sharedunderstanding between medical experts and developers aboutpossible game mechanics and to identify which of thoseapproaches can be suitable for our case. We have applied theacquired knowledge in the creation of an integrated systemcomposed of a web-based content editor for cytologists from wherethe interactive game-like application can be semi-automaticallygenerated. Once the system has been developed we are carryingout tests with professors and students at an Introduction toCytopathology course at Harvard Medical School to ensure boththe usability of the system and that the learning goals are satisfied.
