Our objective was to determine the effectiveness of the IPSmodel in competitive employment on the island of Tenerife, a society with a highunemployment rate and being part of a network model of community support. An 84month follow up study was designed (from 2004 to 2010). From a total sample of 685people, the majority men, single, aged between 26 and 55 years of age and diagnosedwith schizophrenia, 124 were assigned to the IPS programme and 75 received traditionalemployment services. The inclusion criteria for the IPS group were essentially their desireto work and not find themselves in the most critical stage of the illness.Vocational results are compared (hours worked, weeks worked, length of time until firstemployment date, salary, number of days of employment and/or permanentemployment) between both groups, with results found in other countries and anassessment is done using the principals of loyalty of the IPS model.Participants from the IPS Group work longer hours per week, more weeks per year, takefewer days to obtain first job and remain more time than the people included in thecontrol group and more than the majority of people from studies taken place in othercountries.People from the IPS group receive slightly higher wages than the control group andsimilar or lower when compared with other countries. Permanence is a question thatwould require further study PB Universidad de La Laguna, Servicio de Publicaciones SN 978-84-15910-70-1 YR 2014 FD 2014 LK http://riull.ull.es/xmlui/handle/915/63 UL http://riull.ull.es/xmlui/handle/915/63 LA es DS Repositorio institucional de la Universidad de La Laguna RD 13-dic-2024
