They are the placeswhere individual behavior becomes socialized and new attitudes are thus generated, thanks to dynamics learnt at a very young age. From a sociocultural point of view, stereotypes are originated by the system itself and are, therefore, taught to studentsthrough the learning process carried out at school.Analyzing how gender is treated in school books used nowadays will allow us toanswer some key questions concerning gender stereotypes, namely how education mightinterfere or contribute to the development of women’s presence in society, by confirmingor denying sexist and categorized tendencies in such books. Quantifying the appearanceand condition given to each gender in the images and illustrations, as well as analyzingand quantifying grammar evidence in the categories of pronouns and names, will be thebasis of this study. Updating those materials is a crucial aspect in order to enable thecorrect compliance of gender equality as promoted by the law itself, only to be achievedwith the contribution of every social and individual agent involved in the learning process, both inside and outside schools.
