It was alsostudied if prematurity influences at school grades and the risk of poor schoolperformance. Results showed that the very preterm and the extremely preterm infantshad lower scores at the cognitive and psychomotor levels, lower academic scores atSpanish Language, English, Maths and Physical Education. Furthermore, they had ten4times more risk to suffer poor school performance. We failed to find any significantdifferences between the term born children and the moderate preterm infants at thevariables. It is proposed that an early intervention should be developed in order toimprove cognitive development and academic skills in very and extreme preterminfants.
