K1 Tecnología educativa AB The emergence of the Internet has permeated every aspect of both private andcollective life. In regards to education, this technology has gotten into classrooms tothe point that many teachers work with electronic devices and many students usethem during lessons. But, do teenagers really need their own smartphone or tablet?Do they use them for their homework, or they are an element of distraction? Ourmain objective in this study is determining an appropiate age for teenagers to startusing their own smartphone, as well as discovering if their parents exercise somekind of control over their usage of the Internet. In our research we have used specific tools of the social sciences, such asparticipant observation, desk-based research and survey. From them we could deductthat teenagers are unprotected and alone, as their parents do not usually controltheir online activity. In addition to that, teenagers don’t use their personal devices foracademic goals, and in general the quality of education has not increased since wehave the Internet in our lives and schools.
