Inventario post mortem de los bienes del «uncionero» Francisco Redondo

Abstract

Los inventarios post mortem son uno de los documentos que mayor interés presentan para el conocimiento de la vida cotidiana. En este artículo analizamos el inventario post mortem del «uncionero» Francisco Redondo, un oficio ligado a la medicina y que hasta la fecha goza de muy pocas investigaciones. El «uncionero», que residía en Garachico a principios del siglo xvii, disponía de material específico para el ejercicio de su profesión relacionada con la aplicación de «purgantes y laxantes». Incluye varios productos: hojas de sen, acíbar, azúcar rosado, etc., así como los correspondientes envases, instrumental médico y literatura médica y, por supuesto, algunos textiles. Este inventario contribuye a un acercamiento a la vida cotidiana y al desempeño de un oficio importante para el mantenimiento de la salud de los habitantes, en este caso de la comarca de Daute.

Postmortem inventories constitute one of the best sources of knowledge regarding the everyday life. This article analyses the postmortem inventory of the “uncionero” Francisco Redondo, an occupation linked to medicine that has not been researched in-depth to date. The “uncionero”, who lived in Garachico at the beginning of the seventeenth century, had specific tools for the practice of his profession when applying “laxatives and purgatives”. It includes several products: leaves of senna, aloe, pink sugar, etc., together with the containers, medical equipment, medical literature, and of course some textiles. This inventory offers an insight into the everyday life and the performance of an important job for the health of the inhabitants of the Daute region, in this particular case.
