Abstract

Esta cinta, filmada por el cineasta japonés Hiroshi Teshigahara, muestra el conflicto de trágicas consecuencias entre el famoso maestro del té Sen no Rikyu y el general Toyotomi Hideyoshi, donde la lucha entre este ambicioso jefe militar y su discreto maestro se convierte en un enfrentamiento inevitable sobre cómo entender la filosofía de la vida. Este largometraje, ambientado en el Japón del siglo XVI, una época de continuas guerras y de intrigas entre los distintos señores feudales, es un depurado ejemplo de virtuosismo y calidad cinematográfica. Igualmente, ésta constituye un delicado ejercicio estético sobre la esencia de la ceremonia del té.

This movie, filmed by the Japanese director Hiroshi Teshigahara, shows the fight of tragic consequences between the famous Tea Master Sen no Rikyu and the general Toyotomi Hideyoshi, where the dispute between an ambitious officer in command and his discreet master becomes an unavoidable confrontation about how to understand the philosophy of the life. This film, situated in Japan during the XVI century, in an age of continuous wars and intrigues among the different feudal lords, is a carefully worked example of virtuosity and cinematographic quality. Likewise, it makes up a delicate aesthetic exercise about the essence of the tea ceremony.
