This End of Degree Work aims to design the cooling system of an electric Formula
Student vehicle for the University of La Laguna.
This project arose to respond to a FSULL vehicle malfunction: the high engine
temperature, controller and battery pack. Therefore, through this End-of-Grade Work,
the intention is to design the cooling system necessary to maintain the optimum
operating temperature in those parts, so that the duration and performance do not
degrade. To do this, a cooling system was designed using air as a battery cooling fluid;
and water for the engine and controller; both by forced convection.
First, a theoretical basis was carried out on the parts of an electric vehicle, especially the
battery, engine and controller; in addition to a study on the different cooling systems for
this equipment.
Next, the most suitable cooling system for the FSULL vehicle was made among the
different existing proposals.
Finally, the necessary calculations were developed for the choice of equipment that
constitutes the system.
