El turismo en Pátzcuaro (México). Percepciones del visitante extranjero entre 1880‑1920

En México, el turismo como actividad económica surgió alrededor de la década de 1920, mediante
dependencias y políticas gubernamentales que buscaron controlarlo. Previo a ello, los viajeros que visitaban
el país se admiraban con lo que definían como primitivo y pintoresco, y que encontraron sobre todo en los
poblados rurales. Pátzcuaro fue uno de los lugares que mejor ejemplificó ese carácter pintoresco, mediante
un imaginario forjado en el visitante y que quedaría de manifiesto en diversas publicaciones donde los
autores plasmaron sus visiones y experiencias. Mediante el presente documento se analiza cómo se mostró
ese imaginario pintoresco de Pátzcuaro convirtiéndose en un rubro del turismo mexicano, siendo aún en la
actualidad una de las ofertas más atractivas para el turista contemporáneo. In Mexico, tourism arises as an economic activity around the 1920s, through government agencies
and policies for tourism control. Previously, travelers in the country were amazed with what they named as
primitive and picturesque, found especially in the rural villages. Patzcuaro was one of the places that best
exemplified the picturesque, through an imaginary forged in the mind of the visitor, published in the books
where authors reflected their views and experiences. The present paper analyze how this imaginary picturesque of Patzcuaro was showed, becoming a category of Mexican tourism, being even today one of the most
attractive offers for the contemporary tourists.
