The objective of the work shown below is to study the importance of the aviation sector in the
creation of a modern and efficient connectivity system during the last decades, which has been
decisive for the development of tourist activity in the archipelago, whose beginnings go back to
the last century. Although it is true that air transport has been essential for tourism around the
world, in the case of the Canary Islands it has also been crucial to mitigate the effects of
fragmentation and remoteness from the European continent, as well as sea and land transport,
which have mainly facilitated mobility between the islands and have contributed positively to local
competitiveness. With all this, tourism has experienced exponential growth in the Canary Islands
in recent decades, despite having suffered some crisis and problems, and this is especially due to
external connectivity.
