Influencia de la percepción del estado de conservación de la isla en el comportamiento medioambiental de los residentes de un destino turístico: una perspectiva desde la teoría de la identidad

Abstract

El presente estudio tiene como objetivo analizar los antecedentes del comportamiento medioambientalmente responsable de los residentes en un destino turístico desde la perspectiva de la teoría de la identidad. Igualmente, se ha analizado el efecto de las variables moderadoras “percepción del estado de conservación del destino” y “actitud hacia la actividad turística”. El estudio se ha realizado en Tenerife, un destino insular sensible a los impactos negativos medioambientales si no existe una adecuada gestión de la comunidad. Para ello se ha realizado una encuesta a una muestra de 1439 participantes. En virtud de los resultados, se ha podido comprobar que tanto las normas personales como la percepción que poseen los residentes respecto al estado de conservación de la isla, están relacionadas con el comportamiento responsable. No obstante, la identidad y satisfacción con el lugar, así como la actitud hacia la actividad turística no tienen relación significativa con el comportamiento responsable.

The aim of this study is analyzing all those backgrounds responsible for environmental behaviour. These backgrounds belong to all those local people who live in a tourist destination. Furthermore, they have been analyzed using the identity theory perspective. The effects of the moderating variables known as the perception of how well-preserved the destiny is and the attitude towards tourist activity have been analyzed as well. The study has been developed in Tenerife, an insular destination, that without any accurate community management is very sensitive to all kind of negative environmental impacts. Therefore, we have done a survey to 1439 people with the intention of getting to know how aware they are about the well being of the environment. Once we have studied the results of this survey, it can be seen that both personal norms and the perception of local people are connected to the responsible behaviour in reference to the island conservation status. However, the identity and the place satisfaction, as well as the attitude towards the tourist activity have no meaningful relation with the responsible behaviour.
