El futuro del subjuntivo en la Banda Oriental del siglo XVIII

Abstract

La desaparición del futuro de subjuntivo, que se produce en España a lo largo de los siglos XVI y XVII, parece haber ocurrido más tarde en lo que se refiere al español de América. Referencias de su empleo pueden encontrarse en Chile o Argentina en el siglo XVIII, con lo que este periodo determina el final de la utilización de esta forma verbal. Este artículo intenta analizar el uso del futuro de subjuntivo en el español hablado en Uruguay desde el siglo XVIII, para establecer la distribución del tiempo. La situación que se da en Montevideo se compara con la que Fontanella de Weinberg describe para el español de Buenos Aires en el mismo periodo, puesto que esta ciudad ejerce una fuerte influencia en la conformación de la variedad hablada en la Banda Oriental.

The disappearance of the Subjunctive Future, which takes place in Spain during the 16th and 17th centuries, seems to have happened later in the case of American Spanish. Examples of its use can be found in Chile or Argentina in the 18th century, so that this period establishes the end of the utilisation of this verbal form. This article tries to analyse the use of the Subjunctive Future in the Uruguayan variety of Spanish from the 18th century, in order to establish the distribution of the tense. The situation in Montevideo will be also compared with the one that Fontanella de Weinberg describes for the Spanish of Buenos Aires in the same period, as this city practices a decisive influence in the conformation of the variety spoken in the Banda Oriental.
