Las criptomonedas en el sistema económico y financiero

Abstract

El sistema económico y financiero ha experimentado un gran cambio que ha revolucionado su estructura debido a la entrada de las criptomonedas. Es por ello, que es de vital importancia conocer el impacto y funcionamiento de ellas, ya que se consideran el principal sustito de dinero en efectivo. Las criptodivisas o criptomonedas se consideran una divisa digital que permite realizar todo tipo de transacciones a nivel mundial sin necesidad de intermediarios y de conversiones con otras divisas. No obstante, la alta volatilidad y descentralización preocupa en gran medida a las diferentes inversiones que se realizan al estar sujeta a elevados riesgos, este pensamiento se fundamenta en que diversos autores lo consideran como una burbuja especulativa. Esta moneda digital se clasifica en diferentes categorías, en las cuales el Bitcoin es la más conocida, obteniéndose a través de dos principales plataformas que son las wallets y exchange. En la actualidad, el número de usuarios y transacciones por parte de muchos inversores o traders ha incrementado exponencialmente. La legalidad de esta moneda se asienta en algunos países, mientras que se destaca un mayor uso en aquellos países donde es ilegal. La evolución de las criptomonedas a lo largo de la historia se ha visto influenciada por importantes hechos económicos y otras decisiones de alto impacto en el sistema financiero internacional, provocando grandes fluctuaciones en su precio. Al respecto cabe destacar, la crisis financiera de 2007 y la crisis sanitaria provocada por el COVID, ha generado fluctuaciones en cotización de las criptomonedas, así como otra vía de ingresos en momentos inestables.

The arrival of the criptocurrency has produced a big change and revolution in the structure of the economic and financial sector. Therefore, it is of great importance to know the functioning and impact they produce, considering the fact that they are the main substitute to cash. Criptocurrencies are considered as a digital currency that allows all types of transactions anywhere in the world, without the need of any intermediary or currency exchanges. However, the volatility and decentralization concern the investments made, due to the high risk and based on testimonials of known investors that consider it as a speculative bubble. This currency is classified in various categories, being Bitcoin the main one, which can be acquired through wallets or exchanges. Nowadays, the number of users and transactions have multiplied, increasing the amount of traders that, each time, depend more on this idea. Only some countries allow the use of this currency, whereas the usage is higher in countries that consider it illegal. The progress of the criptocurrencies throughout the years has been influenced by significant economic facts and other decisions of high impact on the international financial system, generating fluctuations in its price. The financial crisis of 2007 and the current pandemic have increased the quotation of this currency as being another source of income in unstable moments.
