The objective of this project is to design some schematics that can produce all electric failures
that could be found in an electrical installation. The purpose of this is helping university students
to learn how this electrical protection works.
Firstly, knowing that the main users of this project are university students instead of qualified
professionals, the project has to be designed to be safe for the user. In this case, the user will
manipulate a low voltage circuit. This low voltage circuit will close the “high” voltage circuit
producing the electric failure.
Furthermore, all the circuits must have a low level of consumption. This low level of
consumption allows the use of cheap components in the project reducing the total price and the
cost of the used energy.
The project must have at least five types of electric failures. These failures are a short-circuit, a
ground contact, an over intensity and an over permanent and transitory voltage. Like mentioned
before, these schematics have to be safe for the user and don’t spend a lot of energy.
To conclude, we have to calculate the value of some components and later simulate this circuits
using a program and checking the correct function of the schematics. The program that is going
to be used is “ORCAD Capture”.
