Tourism is the main engine of the economy worldwide. On the other hand, the
tourist sector has been an intrinsic element of the Canary Islands economy and
society since the tourist boom of the 1960s. However, the mobility restrictions and
social distancing norms caused by the outbreak of Covid-19 have defined a
before and after in the development of the activity.
This final degree project analyzes the impact of Covid-19 on tourist
establishments in the Canary Islands, specifically, on the hotel sector and holiday
rentals from both the supply and demand sides. In addition, it shows the results
of a survey addressed to vacation homeowners and the challenges in the profile
of hotel managers, vacation homeowners and clients.
