Cottagecore : utopía del pasado futuro

Abstract

Cottagecore: Utopía del pasado futuro is a theoretical-visual project based on the aesthetic current known as cottagecore. Its’ main goal is to show the possibilities of cottagecore as a recently-proposed lifestyle, as well as the real implications beyond its’ image on social platforms. On the one hand, this aesthetic current is researched in the different historical-social contexts in which it has been developed, starting with its’ appearance in the eighteenth century by the hand of Marie Antoinette. On the other hand, the possibilities of cottagecore as a possible future are critically analysed, rejecting the idealization under which it is found in social media. Finding it impossible to address cottagecore without referring to images, it was deemed necessary to generate a visual segment to complement the research, this being a series of posters-collage, aiming to raise awareness among the population of the need for a positive change in favor of the environment and the true implications of rural life.

Cottagecore: Utopía del pasado futuro es un proyecto teórico-visual basado en la corriente estética Cottagecore. Su objetivo principal es mostrar las posibilidades del mismo como un nuevo estilo de vida, y sus implicaciones reales más allá de su imagen en las redes sociales. Por una parte se aborda a esta estética desde la investigación en los distintos contextos histórico-sociales en los que se ha desarrollado, comenzando por su aparición en el siglo XVIII de la mano de María Antonieta. Por otra parte, se plantea de forma crítica sus posibilidades como un futuro posible, eliminando la idealización bajo la se encuentra en las redes. Siendo imposible tratar cottagecore sin hacer referencia a la imagen, surge la necesidad de generar una parte visual que complemente a la investigación, resultando esta en una serie de carteles-collage, cuyo objetivo es concienciar a la población la necesidad de un cambio positivo a favor del medio ambiente y las verdaderas implicaciones de la vida rural.
