Astrobiología y filosofía: cerrando el círculo original

Abstract

La Astrobiología se ha convertido desde la pasada década de los 90 en una de las disciplinas científicas con mayor impacto social. La posibilidad de que exista vida en otros lugares del universo se adivina cercana gracias a los avances en las técnicas de observación y a las próximas sondas que visitarán otros planetas y satélites de nuestro sistema solar. Las repercusiones de estos hipotéticos hallazgos son enormes para nuestra civilización. La Filosofía no puede quedarse al margen y deberá aportar su visión globalizadora ante un fenómeno fundamental en la historia humana.

In the past decade, Astrobiology has become one of the scientific disciplines with more social impact. The possibility of life everywhere in the cosmos is highly probable, and maybe its discovery will be possible due to the progress on observation techniques and to the probes that will arrive to the planets and satellites of our Solar System. The consequences of this hypothetical finding are very important to our civilization. Philosophy must contribute with its global approach to the insight of a fundamental event in human history.
