The last eruption in La Palma Island, 2021, has created has generated a great
opportunity to involve the feeling when trying to get students to learn about Volcanic
Risk. Such has been the catastrophe and it had so much publicity at the time that it is
still in the memory of almost everyone. The fact that an eruption has occurred in the
immediate environment of the canarian students and becoming aware that it can be
repeated and in any of the volcanologically active islands, opens a door to learning from
feelings. On the islands, people have historically turned their backs on the possibility of
an eruption, loving Teide but not seeing it as a threat despite being among the 10 most
dangerous volcanoes in the world. Being aware of and supporting, even minimally, the
particularity related to volcanic risk that the Canary Islands carry in their DNA should
be reflected in the educational curricula. In the development of this manuscript, on the
one hand, a curricular analysis of the risk throughout the educational laws and on the
other hand, a Didactic Competence Unit will be developed, which will be developed
with the maxim of taking into account: What do we want students to learn, taking into
account why we want them to learn it? What will we make them think, communicate,
do and feel/be so that they learn it? (Digna Couso). The content of the Teaching Unit
Proposal will be closely related to the current context, of recognized relevance and will
try to be able to establish both scientific and life skills in students.
