La protección del patrimonio arquitectónico racionalista en Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Abstract

Es considerable la cantidad de obras representativas del Movimiento Moderno presente en Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Este patrimonio no siempre recibe la protección necesaria ni se les aplica las medidas de conservación que permita su perduración en el tiempo. Esta arquitectura, fruto de la renovación cultural y ciudadana que se dio en las Islas Canarias, es representativa de una época, parte del legado histórico de la ciudad y la dota de un carácter singular. El racionalismo llega para romper con la tradicional configuración de espacios, formas compositivas y estéticas, con nuevas tendencias de marcado carácter industrial. En los últimos tiempos, la obra enmarcada en el Racionalismo goza de un mayor reconocimiento, considerándose necesaria para comprender los cambios sociales y culturales acaecidos en el siglo pasado. Nuestra investigación pretende analizar y valorar la protección real que este patrimonio ostenta y redundar en la importancia de promulgar una mayor conservación y protección de esta arquitectura. Este estudio nos lleva a destacar la relevancia de la renovación de los mecanismos de tutela de este Patrimonio

The number of buildings in Santa Cruz de Tenerife that are representative of Modernism is considerable. This heritage does not always receive the necessary protection or conservation measures to ensure its durability over time. This architecture, resulting from the cultural and civic renewal that took place in the Canary Islands, is representative of an era, is part of the historical legacy of the city and gives a distinctive character to it. Rationalism arrived to break with the traditional configuration of spaces, compositional and aesthetic forms, with new tendencies of a strong industrial style. Lately, the architecture of Modernism has acquired greater heritage value as a cultural asset and as a key element for understanding society and culture in the first half of the 20th century. Our research aims to analyse and assess the actual protection of this heritage and to emphasise the im- portance of enacting greater conservation and protection of this architecture. The study leads us to highlight the relevance of renewing the mechanisms for the protection of this heritage
