Con decoro y hermosura. De la escultura mariana en la producción de José Rodríguez de la Oliva (1695-1777)

Abstract

En este artículo proponemos una puesta en valor de la obra escultórica de José Rodríguez de la Oliva (La Laguna, 1695-1777). Desde de la restauración de la Inmaculada del Santuario del Cristo de La Laguna, planteamos una reflexión sobre sus modos escultóricos, mediante el estudio y atribución de una serie de imágenes repartidas por diversas iglesias. El artista se muestra influido por los modelos imperantes en el Setecientos, que, generados desde la Corte, se extienden por los territorios hispanos. Sus esculturas son fruto de la tradición plástica presente en Canarias y de las obras llegadas hasta sus costas durante el Barroco.

In this article, a value enhancement of the sculptural work of José Rodríguez de la Oliva (La Laguna, 1695-1777) is proposed. Since the restoration of the Immaculate Conception of the Sanctuary of Christ of La Laguna, we propose a reflection on its sculptural ways, through the study and attribution of a series of images distributed by various churches. The prevailing models influence the artist in the seventeenth century, which, generated from the Court, spread throughout the Hispanic territories. His sculptures are the result of the plastic tradition present in the Canary Islands and of the works that reached its shores during the Baroque.
