En las sucesivas páginas que contiene este trabajo, intentare dar a conocer las
principales características de la familia y el matrimonio en Canarias en el siglo XVIII.
Empezaré por hacer un balance general sobre la familia en Canarias en este periodo. A
continuación trataré sobre el matrimonio en la sociedad canaria en el siglo XVIII, sus
rasgos generales y la movilidad social. Dentro del matrimonio y la movilidad social, trataré sobre el papel del mayorazgo en los procesos de movilidad social de las élites.
Por último analizaré los efectos de la Pragmática Sanción de 1776 y sus repercusiones en Canarias, la dote y sus características, la conflictividad en el matrimonio, y, la
familia y las repercusiones de la emigración. In the following pages that containing this work, I will try to present the main
characteristics of the family and the marriage in the Canary Islands in the XVIII
century. I will begin by making a general balance on the family in the Canary Islands in
this period. Then I will discuss the marriage in the Canaries society of the eighteenth
century, its general features and about the social mobility. Inside of the marriage and
social mobility, I will discuss the role of the right of primogeniture in the process of
mobility of the high society.
I will also speak about The Pragmatic Sanction of 1776 and its impact on the
Canary Islands, about the dowry and its characteristics, about the conflicts in the
marriage, in the family and the impact of emigration.
