In this article we reconsider the adaptation of Macbeth by Sir
William D'Avenant and follow the transformations of the
Sakespearean Macbeth through the neoclassic period. With that
purpose we examine the views offered by not only well known
critics and writers, but also by other not so well known spectators
or readers. We believe that the study of Shakespearean adaptations
and transformations offers a unique opportunity to trace the
development of theatrical taste and the changes of literary
standards of criticism.
