Intervención logopédica en un neonato prematuro de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales del Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Canarias.

Abstract

La condición de prematuridad suele implicar una descoordinación de la triada funcional succión-deglución-respiración. El profesional de la logopedia es el encargado de intervenir dentro de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales (UCIN) para paliar esas dificultades. Se ha llevado a cabo un estudio donde participó un neonato prematuro ingresado en el Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Canarias (CHUC) con el objetivo de comprobar si la aplicación de terapia logopédica a través de Método PIOMI (Premature Infant Oral Motor Intervention) influye en la adquisición de una succión nutritiva óptima. Se realizó una evaluación previa y posterior al tratamiento a través del “Protocolo de Evaluación Fonoaudiológica Integral del Neonato (EFIN)”. Tras la intervención, se logró implantar una alimentación totalmente oral eficiente y segura, permitiendo el alta 12 días después del inicio del tratamiento logopédico.

The condition of prematurity usually implies a lack of coordination of the sucking-swallowing-breathing functional triad. The speech therapy professional should be in charge of intervening within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to alleviate these difficulties. A study was carried out with the participation of a premature neonate admitted to the Complejo Hospitalario de Canarias (CHUC) with the aim of verifying whether the application of speech therapy through the PIOMI Method (Premature Infant Oral Motor Intervention) influences the acquisition of optimal nutritive suction. An evaluation was carried out before and after the treatment through the "Protocolo de Evaluación Fonoaudiológica Integral del Neonato (EFIN)". After the intervention, an efficient and safe totally oral diet was implemented, allowing discharge 12 days after the start of speech therapy treatment.
