The aim of the study was to analyze the link between implicit beliefs, motivation, and
dependence to sport practice with health habits, nutrition and psychological variables -positive
body image, emotional discomfort, global health rating, life satisfaction-. The sample was
composed by 199 people (74.4% of athletes, 25.6% of non-athletes), aged between 18 and 60
years old. Athletes had a lower emotional discomfort, and higher levels of positive body image,
global health rating and life satisfaction. Even certain dependency factors have been found to
correlate with greater emotional discomfort, the role played by positive body image is also
highlighted as it predicts well-being: positively both life satisfaction and overall health rating
and, negatively, emotional discomfort. These findings provide a first approach to the relationship
between sport practice, beliefs, motivation and sport dependence, as well as their influence on
well-being variables.
