En el transporte marítimo, la seguridad es el aspecto más importante para evitar los
accidentes e incidentes marítimos y que no se produzcan daños a las personas, materiales o
al medio ambiente. A pesar de que la seguridad marítima se ha mejorado con el paso del
tiempo, se siguen produciendo accidentes e incidentes marítimos en todo el mundo, ya que
queda trabajo pendiente por hacer en el sector. Dentro de estos accidentes marítimos, el
abordaje es el de peor tipo, y cuando se producen, las administraciones de los estados de
abanderamiento llevan a cabo una investigación para esclarecer las causas que los
produjeron y así contribuir a mejorar la seguridad.
El Estrecho de Gibraltar es una de las zonas con más tráfico marítimo del mundo, y
por sus características geográficas presenta un riesgo a la hora de producir un abordaje. Del
año 2000 al año 2022 se han producido 13 abordajes en la zona. Es por ello, que, a través de
los informes de las investigaciones llevadas a cabo de dichos abordajes, se estudiarán las
causas y los motivos principales que los produjeron, para así ayudar a que se puedan evitar
en un futuro.
Además, a través de estas investigaciones, así como con los conocimientos propios
adquiridos y analizando los sistemas que se encuentran en la actualidad en el Estrecho de
Gibraltar en materia de seguridad marítima, se realizarán propuestas que puedan mejorar la
seguridad, tanto en la zona como de forma general. Safety is the most important aspect in maritime transport to avoid maritime accidents

contribute to improving safety.
The Strait of Gibraltar is one of the areas with the most maritime traffic in the world,
and due to its geographical characteristics, it presents a risk when it comes to producing a
collision. From the year 2000 to the year 2022 there have been 13 collisions in the area. That
is why, through the reports of the investigations carried out, the causes and main reasons that
produced them will be studied, to prevent them in the future.
In addition, through these investigations, as well as with the knowledge acquired and
analysing the systems that are currently in the Strait of Gibraltar in terms of maritime security,
proposals will be made that can improve security, both in the area and generally.
