Revenge is a major theme in Elizabethan tragedy. Shakespeare deals
with it in Titus Andronicus. This paper tries to find out its main
characteristics and the reason why this topic is chosen. The Senecan
tradition and the Shakespearean audience are two important aspects to be
examined in order to have a better understanding of the play. The use of
meaningless bloody scenes has an existential connotation. To live may
become a tragic nonsense. The study of the psychology of the characters
could be the other clue to know the muffled purpose of vengeance.
