El turismo en Canarias tras la pandemia: ¿puede hablarse de una recuperación?

Abstract

Tourism is the main driver of the economy in the Canary Islands, making a significant contribution to the Gross Domestic Product of this region. The restrictions derived from the coronavirus pandemic have affected and continue to affect this sector in various ways, which irremediably had to stop its activity. This work aims to investigate and analyze the impact that the pandemic has had on the region’s tourism sector, focusing on the following variables: tourist arrivals, tourist spending, accommodation and employment. Various graphs are presented that show comparative figures of the situation before the pandemic and currently, making it easier to understand the evolution that the tourism sector has experienced. This analysis is the main purpose of this work

El turismo es el principal motor de la economía de las Islas Canarias, suponiendo una significativa contribución al Producto Interior Bruto de este territorio. Las restricciones derivadas de la pandemia del coronavirus han afectado y continúan haciéndolo de diversas maneras a este sector, el cual irremediablemente se vio en la obligación de frenar su actividad. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo investigar y analizar el impacto que la pandemia ha tenido en el sector turístico de la región, enfocándose en las siguientes variables: la llegada de turistas, el gasto turístico, el alojamiento y el empleo. Se presentan diversos gráficos que muestran cifras comparativas de la situación previa a la pandemia y la situación en la actualidad, lo que facilita conocer la evolución que ha experimentado el sector turístico. Este análisis es el principal propósito de este trabajo.
