Ceramic Proton-conducting Materials for PCFC
Date
2024Abstract
This study explores the synthesis and characterization of novel proton-conducting ceramic materials based on La2-xCaxSc1-yMgyNbO7-δ, which are potential electrolytes for protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs). These materials aim to combine high proton conductivity with enhanced chemical stability, suitable for intermediate temperature applications. The ceramic materials were prepared using a freeze-drying precursor method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and neutron diffraction (ND). Several compositions were synthesized by co-doping with calcium and magnesium, leading to the formation of a pyrochlore structure. Electrical properties were determined using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy under different atmospheres. The results indicate that co-doping improves the relative density and enhances the conductivity, making these materials promising candidates for efficient and stable PCFC electrolytes.
