RT info:eu-repo/semantics/article T1 Shakespeare’s Phraseological Wordplay and Translation: A Few Observations A1 Oncins Martínez, José Luis K1 Shakespeare’s style, phraseological units, creative modifi cation, wordplay, translation AB This article reports on some of the results of two research projects on Shakespeare: one on the creative modifi cation of phraseological units as a major source of his wordplay; and the other one on the translation of Shakespeare’s comedies by the Extremaduran scholar José María Valverde. Th e fi rst part of the article off ers a review of the most salient kinds of modifi cation proposed in the specialized literature up until now, suggesting a few that might prove equally useful for analyzing this essential component of Shakespeare’s style. In thesecond part, after a few methodological considerations on the procedure and strategies for rendering this type of expression in Spanish, the article off ers the traductological analysis of a selection of illustrative examples of these phraseologisms in José María Valverde’s translation.
