AB «Naming water in the Middle Ages. From the cherished liquid to the mortal liquid». In thiswork we attempt to grasp the importance of naming water in medieval Castilian, in orderto understand both its linguistic effects on the history of this language as well as the internal development of this field. We shall be using as sources some treatises from the SpanishGolden Age as well as some descriptions which emerged in the wake of the medieval encyclopedic movement. Throughout the thorough search of notary, juridical and literary texts,we shall analyze the linguistic diversity that characterizes this element, departing from thebonds between the Latin and the Castilian denominations, and looking as well at the Arabic influence, according to the social-historical conditions the different territories in theIberian peninsula underwent.
