AB Go, the work of an informed observer or interpreter of the Beat group, can be seen structured as a descent into hell, and as a document whose value lies in presenting the Beat writers from a perspective that is critical and sympathetic. The novel shows the two directions the beat rebellion took, one as a defeated or beaten down movement, and another, as more idealistic and beatific.
