For that, it has been neccesary to define what it is currently understood by PE,making a compilation of the history of this from the sixteenth century to the present, passingthrough different schools that refered to gymnastics, a term previously used to allude to whatit is understood by PE today, and by different currents, present in this subject nowadays. PEhas not been always mandatory at Spanish schools, going through Rabelais that gave a greatimportance to the body, up to the PE law, which was the first time that the PE was taught inschools, although not as is currently with the LOMCE, so the knowledge of the historicalroute of PE is of vital importance. Finally, emphasise that PE provides a lot of benefits bothbody and intellect, it has been proven through different studies.
