Thedirectional effect consists in the tendency on the part of people to generate moreconclusions in one direction ("A always than C") than in another ("C always A").According to the semantic hypothesis, the directional effect is determined by thesemantic role played by the final terms (A or C) in the premises. Two of the mainpredictions of this hypothesis is that there will be a forward directional effect (A-C)when the relam is in the first premise, and the one that is directed backward (C-A)when the relatum is in the second premise. An experiment was carried out using aconstruction task and the results confirmed the predictions of the semantichypothesis.
