AB The subject this article pays attention to is part of a larger project, History of the FortunateIsles, which we undertook years ago. Here we shall be taking into account this subject ofstudy from the fourth to the fourteenth centuries, searching for the authors and works thatdeal with this concept in Greek, Latin and Arabic, and in five different types of text: mythic,mystic-religious, geographic, literary and mixed. Due to the lack of space, only some ofthese examples are provided.
