RT info:eu-repo/semantics/article T1 American Women's Art: Gender from Pre-feminism to Post-feminism A1 Bloch, Avital K1 Estados Unidos K1 mujeres K1 artistas del siglo XX K1 arte K1 feminismo AB This essay analyzes the development of American women’s art from the first decades of the20th century through the 1990s. The first one is painter Georgia O’Keeffe, who became anearly symbol of a female artist and a model to follow in treating gender issues during thesecond half of the century. Photographer Diane Arbus represents the pre-feminist genera-tion of women who grew up in the postwar, while painter Judy Chicago emerged as apioneer of what is known as Second Wave Feminism of the 1960s. Other artists defined aspost-feminist artists since the 1980s, such as sculpture Maya Lin, Cindy Sherman, andphotographer Sally Mann, have expressed a new set of gender sensibilities and exercisedartistic practices that are different from those of previous generations.
