AB The expression of humour in the plastic arts of the Middle Ages is a difficult topic to dealwith, firstly, due to the difficulty to define the concept; to this we must add the difficultyfor the representation of figures or scenes transmitting sensations of comicalness. Departing from the assumption that the humoristic settings of the Middle Ages do not necessarilycorrespond to those of the present day, we have opted for undertaking this study payingattention to different categories, among which we can point out: mirth/laughter, the grotesque, caricatures, games, amusement, transgression, social satire, etc.; all this framing thisartistic creation in its corresponding historic, politic, religious, philosophic and social frame.
