AB This study pays attention to the vocabulary of trading as found in collections of documentsand records of the Vasc Country that were produced during the early Middle Ages. Theanalysis of the genesis and spreading of this terminology is carried out taking into accountonomastics, lexicography and history. Aided by these disciplines, we focus on those specificwords related to mercantile activity in this northern linguistic area at this early stage of theromance language. Expressions pertaining local centers, exchanged products (from the fieldsof agriculture, cattle, textile industry, clothing, etcetera.) are analysed according to availablerecords and documents, lexicographical sources and any pertinent information that mightenrich their semantic and etymological contents.
