Thousands of objects ofincalculable value and cultural importance were confiscated from public museums and privatecollections by the Nazi army and lost forever in the international art circuit.Seventy-five years after the end of the conflict, the aftermath of the Nazi plundering isstill present in our cultural life, and many of the legitimate owners or their heirs are stillwaiting to know the whereabouts of these works. However, once the works have been located, the path to their restitution is not a peaceful one, and there are countless obstacles to beovercome, due to the lack of harmonising rules at national and international level on thecross-border restitution of works of art.
