In order to address this issue, the roles played by women and menthroughout history are reviewed, focusing on how women have been incorporated intothe world of work and the adaptations and difficulties they have had to overcome. One of these difficulties to overcome is to achieve equality in terms of access to a job,the level of remuneration or access to positions of responsibility. But equality should not only be reflected in the work environment, but also in thefamily environment. Nowadays, the role of men is changing and, with theincorporation of women into the world of work, they must become more and moreinvolved in domestic tasks and in caring for the family. The co-responsibility of tasksis essential to achieve real equality in the family. This should not be considered a task for individuals and their families; companiesand governments should also be involved. The former must not forget their socialresponsibility towards their workers when it comes to facilitating work-life balance;and governments must legislate to ensure that there is no discrimination when itcomes to accessing a job, as well as to achieve protection for women on issues such assexual harassment and maternity. For this reason, reference is made to some of the laws on work-life balance andequality, pointing out some of the most relevant measures that have been approved toput this aspect from theory to practice. Finally, new forms of work, such as teleworking, are analysed, as well as how theycan help to personal, family and work reconciliation. With the recent global pandemicof Covid-19, and the measures of confinement and social distancing, there has been arevival of this form of work.
