AB The object of this research is the analysis of the measures that were adopted by PenitentiaryInstitutions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in prison. We start exposing thosecircumstances that incited the inclusion of the inmates among risk groups, specificallyattending to the prison overcrowding, and continuing with the description of the main spheresof influence in which inmates were affected. Next, we consider the most important rulesimplemented in prison, distinging between those that had releasing purposes, socialrelationship restrictions, sanitary and related to exit prison permit. Finally, we will rate thosemeasures according to their effectiveness, taking as reference the contagiousness andmortality of the virus in reclusion centers, and the limitations imposed, ending with aproposal for the reform of the penitentiary system, oriented to consolidate information andcommunication technologies.
