The aim of this paper is tosubstantiate Brazilians perception with respect to elements that prevent them from experiencing certainleisure events, with responses analysed according to gender and income. The research was empiricalprocedure using survey techniques involving 2400 subjects aged 7 and over. This paper specifically discussesthe variables relating to gender and income, and how these can influence access to leisure activities. Itwas identified that time and money were the two main constraints on leisure experiences mentioned bythe subjects. We conclude that the existence of these barriers is directly related to the conditions of life inour society. Income and gender inequalities influence leisure experiences, giving pause for reflection on theinequalities of access to leisure as a social right.
