AB This study seeks to provide evidence on the existence of a pattern of intergenerationaltransmission of abuse, on the one hand and on the other, it searches to clarify the impactthat the history of abuse can have on certain psychological and cognitive variables. Thestudy involved 18 women, all mothers who take care of a child, which were divided into2 groups: negligent mothers and no-negligent mothers, depending on the absence ordetected presence of negligent educative and physical behaviour and lack ofsupervision. Both groups of mothers were evaluated in terms of several variables:history of abuse, cognitive deterioration, history of life events, alexithymia, anhedoniaand psychological disorders. The results show significant differences between the twogroups in terms of the existence of abuse in their personal history, providing evidenceon the transmission of abuse. Significant differences were also found regarding the factof having suffered abuse, in the variables: cognitive integrity, history of life events,alexithymia, major depressive disorder, antisocial personality disorder and obsessivecompulsive disorder. Furthermore, a positive correlation of the suffered abuse with thevariables cognitive deterioration, major depressive disorder, risk of suicide,(Hypo)mania, obsessive compulsive disorder and alexithymia is reflected, indicatingthese results important consequences due to the history of abuse.
