AB Child sexual abuse is a global spread problem, which affects a high percentage of thegeneral population. The objective of this article was to introduce the mainpsychopathological effects of this traumatic experience and to evaluate its implications CONSECUENCIAS PSICOPATOLÓGICAS DEL ABUSO SEXUAL INFANTIL Página 4 de 32in the clinical and forensic practice. In order to do so, thirteen authentic articles wereselected. These articles, published in the last twenty years in Spain as well asworldwide, were selected from various databases and specialized journals. Resultsindicate the most common symptoms are internalizing disorders, especially posttraumatic stress, anxiety and depression, as well as other psychological problems.However, a huge difficulty can be faced while studying this subject, sincemethodological mistakes may cause biases in the results, as an incorrect selection of thesample, the absence of control groups and the inclusion of false negatives, amongothers. In addition, the affectation depends on the personal characteristics of the victimsand the abuse itself, mainly, which must be taken into account in the assessment andtreatment. Education and health professionals must be deeply aware of this issue tomake an early detection, an appropriate evaluation and an effective intervention.
