The author considers Rigas Velestinlis (1757-1798) one of the creator of the neohellenic literature, after analysing his whole work (traslations and original work) taking into account essential keys such as the literary style of the new Greek nation and the existence of a local literature. This analysis is centred on Rigas΄ poetic production: his translations, his versions and the originality of his love songs which are enclosed in the Greek versions of Rétif de la Bretonnes΄ tales, Scoleivo tw'n ntelikavtwn ejrastw'n (Vienna, 1790) and in relation to [Erwto" ajpotelevsmata (Vienna, 1792).
