This paper explores the ways in which the Greek mind derived a notion
of time's cyclical nature from the sleep/wakefulness alternation, as well as
the influence of sleep/death dichotomies on Greek views of eternity.
Particular attention is paid to figures in myth and history, such as the
Sleeping Cronos, Endymion, Cleobis and Biton, the Cretan Epimenides and
the Sardinian heroes.
